Our Spaces: The Beacon
A Space for Teen Connection
The Beacon was designed by teens, for teens - with every detail intentionally created to support emotional wellness, connection, and self-awareness. From the moment you walk in, the space invites you to slow down and check in with yourself. Our “How Are You Doing Today?” wall encourages teens to pause and reflect on their emotional state, helping build the habit of self-awareness and emotional literacy before stepping into the space.
Through the Beacon app, teens can also receive suggestions for how to engage with the space based on their check-in. Just beyond the entrance, our tactile entry wall invites teens to literally “ground” themselves before moving further into the space, with elements such as grass textures that encourage hands-on connection to the present moment. Throughout The Beacon, additional sensory features ; including calming bubble walls and Sisyphus kinetic sand tables- provide opportunities to regulate, refocus, and decompress. Teens can also retreat to the teen-designed sensory room with innovative technology that supports mind-body regulation, meet with friends in the conference space, or grab a healthy snack in the kitchen to fuel the body.
The journey ultimately leads to Daniel’s Den, a warm and nurturing lounge often described as “a hug in a room,” with a softly lit fireplace, hanging plants we care for together, and cozy seating that creates the perfect setting for fireside chats, reflection, and friendship.
— Eva Mergner, Joy's MomJoy absolutely loved the time she spent with you all last week. I told her sister that it sounded like Joy found her people. I just wish we had joined sooner!
