Learning Beyond the Kitchen
June 1, 2026

Bunny Bakes trainees recently traded their aprons for a behind-the- scenes look at one of Pittsburgh's busiest bakeries.
During a special visit to a Giant Eagle, trainees had the opportunity to explore different departments in the bakery, learn how a large-scale bakery operates, and discover some of the many career paths available within the food and hospitality industry. Throughout the tour, they asked questions, met team members, and got a firsthand look at the work that goes into creating the baked goods customers enjoy every day.
For many trainees, the experience offered a unique opportunity to connect the skills they practice each week at Bunny Bakes to roles at a much bigger workplace. From teamwork and organization to customer service and attention to detail, many of the lessons they have been developing in training were reflected throughout the bakery. Trainees explored the different areas of the bakery, learned about the equipment used behind the scenes, and compared the Giant Eagle bakery to their own experiences at Bunny Bakes.

At Friendship Circle, employment readiness is about more than learning job skills. It is about building confidence, exploring possibilities and helping individuals discover their strengths. Experiences like this help trainees envision future opportunities while reinforcing the value of the work they are already doing.

We are grateful to the Giant Eagle team for welcoming our trainees and providing such a meaningful and memorable experience. The visit was filled with learning, inspiration and plenty of sweet moments along the way.
