EKC Friends, Ice Cream and a Really Good Night

August 19, 2026

More than a group photo, this is community 💜

Some events you plan… and then some just kind of fall into place.

The EKC Ice Cream Social felt like one of those nights where everything clicked without trying too hard. People were walking in, spotting friends they hadn’t seen in a while, doing double takes like “wait… is that you?” — and then instantly picking up where they left off.

There wasn’t any pressure to do anything specific. Some people headed straight for the ice cream, loading up bowls and comparing flavors. Others got pulled into trivia, laughing through answers, learning random facts about Pittsburgh and FC along the way. And in between all of that, there were just conversations happening everywhere — small groups, new faces, old friends reconnecting.

Elliott said it best:

“It was a spectacular time. I got to reconnect with friends I hadn’t seen in a long time in such a fun way. I met new people and had some great ice cream. Overall it was very fun and I’m excited for future events.”

That mix of reconnecting and meeting new people was kind of the theme of the night. You could see it happening in real time — someone introducing themselves, someone else jumping into the conversation, and suddenly it didn’t feel like “new” anymore.

For Lilly, it was a reminder of what makes FC feel different:

“Last night at the Friendship Circle ice cream social I was able to see old and new camp friends. We got to eat delicious ice cream and play trivia. I learned things about FC and about Pittsburgh that I never knew… that is what an ordinary FC activity is. Hanging out with friends, eating good food, meeting new people, and learning. I can’t wait to start attending more things for as long as FC will have me!”

And honestly, that line stuck — that’s what an ordinary FC activity is.

Nothing over the top. Just being around people, having something simple like ice cream bring everyone together and letting the rest happen naturally.

By the end of the night, no one was really in a rush to leave. People were still talking, still laughing, still saying “I’ll see you at the next one.”

And that’s kind of the point.
