Celebrating Disability Pride Month at Friendship Circle

July 6, 2026

July is Disability Pride Month, a time to recognize the unique identities, talents, and contributions of people with disabilities. At Friendship Circle, it's also a chance to celebrate the people who make our community what it is every single day.

This month, we asked members, volunteers and staff one simple question:

What does inclusion mean to you?

The answers were all different, but they shared a common theme: inclusion is about belonging.

Our FC volunteer, Frani Caplan, described it as "a place where people can all be together and help each other." Another shared that it's creating "a safe and friendly environment" where everyone can participate. For others, inclusion meant making sure people aren't just invited to be part of something, but are included in every step of the experience.

Disability Pride Month has also been filled with moments that show inclusion in action.

One moment that stood out this month came from Friendship Circle member Syd. When asked what Friendship Circle means to her, she smiled and said it makes her feel "cozy inside."

As Disability Pride Month continues, we're reminded that inclusion isn't just something we celebrate in July. It's something we practice every day by creating opportunities for friendship, leadership and belonging. We're grateful to every member, volunteer, family and staff member who helps make Friendship Circle a place where everyone is welcomed, valued and celebrated.

Happy Disability Pride Month!
